A walking desert by the Baltic. A 30-metre dune that drifts a few metres each year. The approach is through the forest and former military grounds.
The best-known dune in Słowiński National Park. The crest reaches 42 metres, though the height shifts year to year. The prevailing westerly wind drives the whole dune east by 3 to 10 metres annually, burying alder forest and slowly eating into the shore of Lake Łebsko. The name comes from the village of Łączka, swallowed by sand around 300 years ago.
From Rowy, this is a full-day trip. Lakes Gardno and Łebsko block any direct route, so the drive loops south through Główczyce and Wicko. The standard approach is from the Łeba side: from the Rąbka car park, a paved road runs through the forest to the foot of the dune, about 6 km. One way: 1.5-2 hours on foot, 30 minutes by bike (rentals at the car park), or a few minutes in a melex electric cart. From the summit you can see the Baltic, Lake Łebsko, and, on a clear day, Rowokół hill to the west.
Park tickets: PLN 10 standard, PLN 5 reduced (1 May - 30 Sep), children under 7 free; off-season is free. The Rąbka car park is paid. Leaving the marked paths is forbidden. The slopes are roped off. Dogs aren't allowed on protected trails. If the point is the shifting-dune experience without a full-day commitment, consider Wydma Czołpińska - closer from Rowy, quieter, same landscape.
